Research

Research is an integral part of Nahant Marsh. We are able to expand our knowledge of the ecosystems found here, which allows us to better maintain this amazing natural area. Research projects also allow students to participate in exciting projects and gain hands-on experience in their field of study. We offer research opportunities in the fields of Wildlife Biology, Ecology, Animal Behavior, Botany, Hydrology, Chemistry, Genetics, Geology, Geography, Toxicology, and many more.

We are currently seeking applications for Research Interns. See the description below

LSAMP IINSPIRE Summer Research at Nahant Marsh Education Center

All graduating high school seniors and current college students are welcome to participate. In order to receive compensation the following criteria must be met:

  • United States citizen or permanent resident
  • College GPA of 2.5 or highs school GPA of 2.7
  • Major in a science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM) discipline at a participating college or university
  • Member of an underrepresented group in STEM, including Black or African-Americans, Alaskan Natives, American Indians, Hispanic Americans, Native Hawaiians, and Native Pacific Islanders

Past research projects include turtle monitoring, goat grazing studies, mushroom surveys, underwater ROV surveys, and wildlife monitoring using trail cameras. Possible research projects for this season include turtle population monitoring, investigating water quality and hydrology of the Marsh, and drone surveys of habitats.

Qualifying students will be compensated at $10.00 per hour and approximately 15-20 hours will be available weekly. The internship will run end of May to September 2018

Hours

The Education Center is open
M-F: 8:30 a.m.- 4:30 p.m.
Saturdays 9 a.m.- 3 p.m.
Trails are open daily from sunrise to sunset.

If the main gate is locked, trails are accessible from the front parking lot. Look for the opening in the fence near the kiosk.
