Volunteer Opportunities

“Unless someone like you cares a whole awful lot, nothing is going to get better. It’s not.”  — Dr. Seuss

Volunteers are vital to the ecological integrity of Nahant Marsh, and help is always needed! Volunteer duties include anything from trash cleanup, to helping with special events, to cooking for visiting AmeriCorps crews or helping with education programs.

We are currently looking for volunteers willing to be Docents! Docents are needed for Saturday mornings from 9:00 a.m. until noon, and occasionally on weekdays when we have special events.  As a docent, you will be in the building to welcome and assist visitors. This could include:

  • Sharing our mission, history, and habitats;
  • Asking them to sign the guestbook;
  • Selling Nahant merchandise; accepting donations, memberships, or Animal Ambassador “adoptions;
  • Talking about the Friends of Nahant Marsh group; and
  • Promoting upcoming programs and events.

We also like to have volunteers trained to assist with environmental education programs in case we are short staffed. This is a great opportunity for retired teachers or nature enthusiasts with some previous experience.  Training will be provided.

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please fill out a Volunteer Application.
