Grab the family and explore the wonders of the outdoors at Nahant Marsh. There are so many fun, engaging and amazing things to discover at the Marsh. Together, families will learn about our local plant and animal communities through hands-on activities. Reserve your spot by registering online.
February 8 - Animal Detectives: Investigate the trails to see what tracks and signs have been left behind. Using evidence collected, we will learn about the animals that live at the marsh in winter.
March 14 - Dive in with Ducks: Waddle on over to the marsh to observe and learn about the ducks that are visiting Nahant during spring migration.
April 11 - Wiggling Worms - Dig into the soil and observe how earthworms move and how they enrich the soil.
May 9 - Who Lives in a Tree?: Learn about the animals that make homes in trees.
June 13 - Water Bug Hunt: Using dip nets, we will search the marsh for invertebrates like crawfish, water boatman, and ghost shrimp. We may even catch a frog or two!
July 11 - Wild about Wildflowers: Summer is a beautiful time in the prairie. Explore the prairie and learn about flower parts and their role in the ecosystem.
August 8 - Prairie Insects: Insects are the most numerous animal group on the planet, and this time of the year we find them all over the prairies. Learn more about these fascinating insects while catching (and releasing) as many as you can.
September 12 - Monarch Release Party
October 10 - Seeds Need: Explore seeds as food for people and animals and learn how animals spread seeds.
November 14 - Terrific Turkeys: Learn about the unique characteristics of wild turkeys.
