March 12: Wilderness Survival – Learn important tips and skills to help you survive in the wild. This program will cover the survival basics and how you can use them in emergency situations.
April 9: Spring Retreat (Hike and Yoga) – Stretch your feet and bodies with a naturalist-lead hike and some relaxing yoga.
May 14: Gardening – Families will work together to plant a garden while learning tips and tricks. We will be planting in Nahant’s Keyhole Garden (a type of raised bed that was made popular in Africa and other dry climates).
June 11: Canoeing – Learn basic canoe stokes and enjoy a relaxing paddle at Carp Lake. Meet at 3709 S. Concord, Davenport, IA. Minimum participation is 10 and registration by June 9 is required.
July 9: Wildlife Safari – Many animals live at Nahant Marsh. Together, we will follow clues and see what critters we can find.
Aug. 13: Pond Study – Catch insects that live in the Marsh. Participants will learn how to identify common species and how they play an important role in the wetland ecosystem.
Sept. 10: Prairie Insects – They will learn about their habitats, food sources, and adaptations. Participants will use nets to catch insects found in Nahant’s prairie. Monarch will be migrating at this time and we will have tags available.
Oct. 8: Halloween Hike – Wear your costume and celebrate Halloween at Nahant!
Nov. 12: Sleeping Animals – Learn how and why some animal hibernate.
Dec. 10: New Year’s Recyclution – Make a resolution to be greener! Learn clever tips on how to reduce waste and ideas for upcycled projects.
